A Dream Clubhouse: Garden of Dreams Foundation’s Renovation of the Columbus Clubhouse

From spontaneous musical performances to NY Rangers players scoring goals, the celebration of our Columbus Clubhouse’s renovation by the Garden of Dreams Foundation was nothing short of show-stopping!

On December 13th, Madison Square Boys & Girls Club and The Garden of Dreams Foundation celebrated a fully transformed space at our Columbus Clubhouse in the Bronx. The renovation was made possible by a $1.7 million dollar grant via the Garden of Dreams Giving Program, the largest grant to date gifted by the Foundation for a single project.

The refurbishment of the space includes a brand new state-of-the-art gymnasium, locker room, arts and crafts room and multipurpose room. Floor-to-ceiling upgrades included new lighting, flooring, technology and the conversion of the unused gymnasium stage into a dance studio. In addition to these improvements, the Columbus Clubhouse is one of five Madison Square Boys & Girls Clubs to receive a new music studio via Notes for Notes where children will have the opportunity to learn about professional musicianship and other careers in the industry.

The celebration included some special guests like Darryl McDaniels from RunDMC, Rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, players from the NY Rangers and NY Knicks, as well as the Knicks City Dancers.

Thank you to The Garden of Dreams Foundation for your incredible partnership and generosity!

The Road to Youth of the Year

With just 5 months to go before Madison’s 7th Annual Youth of the Year Dinner, our teen members are hard at work, preparing for a chance to receive one of the Clubhouse’s highest honors.

Youth of the Year is the premier national recognition program for Club members. The program celebrates youth who have overcome enormous odds and demonstrated exceptional character and leadership skills. The program promotes service to the Club, community and family, academic success, strong moral character, life goals, and poise and public speaking ability. Each of Madison’s four Clubhouses chooses one outstanding youth to represent their Clubhouse. Of those four youth, one is chosen as the overall Madison Square Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year.

As the Youth of the Year Dinner approaches, preparation for this year’s competition is in full swing. YOY candidates have been selected at all four Clubhouses and are working hard to become their Clubhouses YOY representative this year. Between essay writing, volunteerism, and refining their public speaking skills, our Youth of the Year program is helping to shape the future of our teen members.

Currently, our Clubhouse staff are working with the prospective candidates to get them ready for the Clubhouse competitions, taking place throughout February & March. The winners from each Club will then go on to compete to become this year’s Youth of the Year representative for Madison Square Boys & Girls, who will then go on to compete at the state competition.
