United States Navy Kicks Off Fleet Week 2011 at Madison Square Boys & Girls Club!

Navy Seals ColumbusMadison Square Boys & Girls Club was honored to host two incredible kick-off parties for New York City Fleet Week 2011 in May. Our kids participated in an incredible series of events that allowed them to engage with members of the United States Navy, Coast Guard, Marines, and even special ops forces from the Navy Seals!

On Tuesday, May 24, our Navy Yard Clubhouse in Brooklyn opened its doors to members of the United States Navy for a special question-and-answer session followed by a dance party maestroed by a Naval band playing Top 40 hits that had our kids up and moving. As a gesture of thanks, our young members presented Chaplain Captain Bruce Boyle and Senior Chief Lissett Araiza with signed T-shirts thanking them for their service.

On Wednesday, May 25, Bronx members got a taste of what it's like to be a Navy Seal when members of our Joel E. Smilow Clubhouse took part in a "Navy Seal Athletic Challenge" led by actual members of the Navy Seals.

Navy Thank You ShirtsThe week was capped on Thursday, May 26, when more than 40 members from both our Bronx and Brooklyn Clubhouses were invited to the U.S.S. Iwo Jima for an exclusive tour of the formidable Naval vessel while it was docked in Manhattan.

Madison Square Boys & Girls Club would like to thank all members of the United States armed services for their dedication to our country -- and special thanks to the United States Navy for choosing Madison Square Boys & Girls Club as its Fleet Week volunteer destination!
